FIFUSA Vice President, Pedro Bonnettini, officially inaugurates the third edition of the FIFUSA Intercontinental Cup of Futsal Clubs. He is accompanied by the organization's treasurer, Antenor Telles.
The passion for futsal was felt inside and outside the court at the José "Cochocho" Vargas municipal micro-stadium during the opening day of the Intercontinental Cup organized by the International Federation of Futsal (FIFUSA) in collaboration with the Municipality of Ushuaia.
The French team Marguerittois and the Brazilian side Colorado kicked off an intense day that featured five other matches, all showcasing quality play and exciting goals.
Before the closing match between the local Club Casa Magallanes and Puerto Williams from Chile, the official inauguration took place, attended by all delegations, referees, municipal officials, city council members, FIFUSA leaders, representatives of the Argentine Futsal Confederation, and the Ushuaia Futsal Federation.
Liliana Gavilán, president of the Municipal Sports Institute, expressed: “Our city is celebrating, and from the Municipality, we are certain that this competition is not just another sporting event but a concrete example of the continuous support we provide to various sports disciplines and community development.”
She added, “We must continue supporting sports with public policies to foster such initiatives.”
Gavilán emphasized that “Ushuaia is a place the world is watching,” and with this Intercontinental Cup, “we demonstrate our ability to host events that transcend our borders and place the city in the global spotlight.”
Pedro Bonettini, FIFUSA’s vice-president, highlighted the importance of holding the tournament at the "end of the world," stating that it was “made possible by the local futsal leadership’s commitment and the strong support from the Municipality and Mayor Walter Vuoto.”
He also announced that Ushuaia could host the Women’s Club Futsal World Cup in 2026.
This Saturday, starting at 12 p.m., the second group stage matches will take place at the "Cochocho," with the local teams in action.
The team from Río Grande, O'Higgins, will seek redemption from their defeat against Flamengo from Comodoro Rivadavia by facing Brazil’s Colorado at 8 p.m. The day's final match will see Magallanes take on Australia’s United at 10 p.m., both teams having won their opening games.
