The Comodoro team was crowned Champion of the Ushuaia 2024 Intercontinental Cup in its third edition, defeating Jockey Club 2-1 in extra time with goals from Pablo Álvarez and Gabriel Almonacid.
It was a tremendous all-Argentine final, with a spectacular level of futsal, and under the guidance of coach Luis Ramos, they celebrated an international title for the first time in their history.
Flamengo deserved it throughout the first half, starting with an intense ten minutes but unable to make it count on the scoreboard. The Mendoza team read the game well, adjusted their defense, and went all out, finding an opening with a perfect volley from Facundo Colombi to make it 1-0.
As always, the rest of the match was extremely challenging, with the Cuyo side aiming to avoid mistakes and close the game on counterattacks, while Flamengo sought to control the field. At 18’ in the second half, Poli Álvarez scored a relieving header to equalize.
In extra time, tension and nerves ran high, as the second half had been fiercely contested, with indirect blue cards shown to Fabián Lauletta, Diego Vargas, and Matías Cárcamo.
With these challenges, the substitutes had to step up, and Gabriel "Pingüi" Almonacid did just that, going for a header that, after a ricochet, found its way into the Mendoza net for a 2-1 victory, sparking celebrations for Flamengo, Comodoro, and all of Patagonia at the world’s end.
