The Argentine National Team, led by Armando Corvalán, had a dream debut in the VIII FIFUSA Futsal World Cup, defeating Guatemala with a commanding 7-1 victory in the second match of the opening day.
First half: Narrow lead for Argentina The first half was closely contested, but Argentina managed to break the deadlock in the 6th minute with a goal from Santiago Verón (#5), who capitalized on a fortunate play in the box to make it 1-0. This narrow lead gave the Albiceleste confidence, as they dominated possession but were unable to extend their lead before halftime.
Second half: Argentina unleashes its offensive power In the second half, Argentina displayed its full offensive potential. In the 6th minute of the second half, Tomás Civelli (#4) made it 2-0 after an assist from Diego Vargas (#9). Vargas, who was in great form, scored the 3-0 in the 10th minute, returning the favor to Civelli.
Guatemala managed to pull one back with a goal, but Argentina didn’t let up. José María Carrito (#6) made it 4-1 in the 13th minute with an assist from Civelli, and the match ended spectacularly, with Jeremías Asencio (#11) scoring a hat-trick in the 17th, 19th, and 20th minutes. The assists came from Matías Cárcano (#8) and Santiago Verón (#5) for the final goal.
Match incidents The match was intense, with several bookings. Tomás Civelli (#4) of Argentina received a yellow card in the 11th minute of the second half, while for Guatemala, Anthony Coronado (#7) was booked in the 15:40 minute, followed by José Morales (#1) in the 10th minute.
With this victory, Argentina, under the leadership of Armando Corvalán, positions itself as one of the strongest teams in the tournament. Meanwhile, Guatemala, led by Gustavo Valderramas, will have to rethink their strategy for the upcoming matches.
